Assistant Research Farm Manager

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your practical skills while developing your knowledge in an applied field support career. The role is to assist the Research Farm Team Leader with the operation of the Barenbrug research farm, providing support to the company’s research and development, pasture systems and foundation seed programmes. 

The Assistant Research Farm Manager supports the farm users and ensures the farm and facilities are tidy and well maintained, to help Barenbrug achieve its business objective – of being the leading pasture company for farmers. 

 

You will be a key member of the research farm team, as well as develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the plant breeding team, pasture systems team and production team. 

 

About You

You are practical and enjoy working outdoors. You have a passion for plants, an eye for detail and an interest in agriculture and research. You will want to make a positive difference in the New Zealand pastoral industry. You will value the importance of teamwork and strive to assist other team members as much as you can, along with having a real drive for professional work. The ability to achieve a high standard of accuracy in your work is a must for this role. A positive attitude and personal responsibility are also essential.

Ideal Skills & Experience:

  • Strong practical skills with high attention to detail 
  • Mechanical skills and experience
  • Motivated to have a career in agriculture and an interest in applied research
  • Experience in field work, working with crops and animals
  • Post secondary qualification 
  • High level of integrity
  • Team player
  • Experience operating tractors, harvesters and various implements
  • Experienced with use of agrichemicals, fertilisers and Growsafe certified
  • Heavy trade and forklift licence
